The Training Band is the place to get started in the world of Brass playing. All beginners are welcome of any age and ability. More than one parent has taken up playing alongside their child, and we have seen that this is probably the best way to encourage and keep a younger player engaged. Our stock of instruments means that new and experienced players alike can try our different members of the brass family to see what suits them best. We can provide a range of instruments for regular members of the Band to both try and loan.
For complete beginners, we provide basic tuition in a small group to get started. As soon as they are able to play and read enough notes, we encourage our new players to join in with the Training Band, since this is both more fulfilling and less intimidating than the small group.
The Training Band is typically made up of around 8 new players, helped by a number of more experienced players from the Senior band. The highlight of the Band’s year is a feature in the Annual concert where a few of the best pieces are played.
For the protection of our younger members, a Child Protection Policy is in place. Members of the band with regular interaction with junior members are CRB checked.
The Training band has one rehearsal each week. See the “Rehearsals” page for more details.
Subs for the Training Band is set at £2 per rehearsal, up to a maximum of £40 per year. For regular players this can include the loan of a band instrument.
